Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has warned Ndigbo to be wary of former president Olusegun Obasanjo.
Apparently uncomfortable with the presence of the former Nigerian president at the recently held Igbo Economic Summit at Enugu, MASSOB urged Igbo leaders, especially the political class to be mindful of their relationship with the former military and civilian leader.
In a statement, yesterday, MASSOB spokesman, Uchenna Madu stated that Obasanjo’s present “political antics, romance and friendship in Igbo land is dangerous to the political survival of Ndigbo in Nigeria.”
He noted that during the former president’s eight-year tenure, he consciously and created political problems for Ndigbo and initiated several political frustrations against Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo states.
“During the tenure of Orji Uzor Kalu, Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Chimaraoke Nnamani. Obasanjo ignored Igboland with no infrastructural development, he politically witch- hunted our people. He also mesmerised Ndigbo by changing Igbo senators five times in office of Senate president.”
MASSOB, therefore, frowned at the behaviour of some governors in the zone who were inviting the former president to the zone for their state functions.
The statement also said: “Today Igbo governors of Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu states are celebrating him by inviting him to commission projects in their respective states. During his eight-year rule, he never visited the late Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu (Eze Igbo Gburugburu) or showed concerns over his position as Igbo leader.
“Obasanjo, an enemy of Ndigbo, hates former president Goodluck Jonathan because of his brotherly treatment to Ndigbo. He (Jonathan) did not see Ndigbo as conquered people but appreciated and acknowledged the leadership qualities and industrious nature of Ndigbo.
“During Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure as president, Ndigbo, for the first time occupied key principal political positions like minister of Finance, Secretary to the Federal Government, Petroleum Minister, Inspector General of Police, Chief of Army Staff etc. Enugu International Airport which Olusegun Obasanjo vehemently and wickedly opposed because of his pathological hatred against Biafrans was built by Goodluck Jonathan.
“Also, during Jonathan’s tenure, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu was given due attention, his family was recognised and a befitting national burial of gallant military leader was accorded him as a Biafran president.
Today, Jonathan is hated and abused by Obasanjo because of this singular heroic respect given to Eze Igbo Gburugburu.”
