The Tito Group of Companies, producers of Tito Yoghurt, has distributed free yoghurts worth N2 million to some nursing and expectant mothers in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.
Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director, (CEO/MD), Asiwaju Isaac Akinkunmi, who made the distribution at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Makurdi, said the gesture was in commemoration of the just ended breastfeeding week as part of the company’s social responsibility to its host community.
Akinkunmi said that the greek and probiotics yoghurts distributed to the pregnant and nursing at the FMC was also to contribute their quota towards improved feeding of the mothers and encourage proper breastfeeding for the babies.
The business mogul who noted that breast milk is best for babies said “We do know that for your vehicle to perform well, you need to feed it with fuel and oil it with grease and so it is for nursing mothers. They need to feed properly with balanced diet to allow the milk flow. That goes same for expectant mothers who must feed properly during gestation in order to give birth to strong and healthy babies.”
“Our mission is to donate our products, Tito yoghurt plus, which is greek, probiotic and bacteria, loaded to the mothers to enable their bodies produce the required results in their present conditions.
He said yoghurts have tremendous effect on health as it can help in rejuvenation, maintaining the gastrointestinal tract, build immunity, helps in digestion and is antagonistic to many pathogens which are diseases causing agents.
“Probiotics are to adults what breast milk is to babies. We are at this facility (FMC) to contribute our quota to improve breast feeding,” he said.
He appreciated the management of FMC for allowing the company to use their facility for the distribution exercise.
Earlier, the Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the FMC, Mrs Veronica Ochayi, who stood in for the Head of Nursing, Mrs Elizabeth Ekefan and the new Medical Director, Joseph Kortor, commended the Tito group for choosing the facility for the free presentation of of the yoghurts to nursing and expectant mothers.
Ochayi who stressed that yoghurt helps nursing and pregnant mothers to carry their babies to full term while it also nourishes them to breastfeed, appreciated the company for the work they are doing in the state and Nigeria as a whole and prayed God to reward them with much abundance.
Speaking to our correspondent, the benefiting mothers, Sewuese Achi, Asongo Wandoo and Theresa Atah appreciated Tito group of companies for their kind gesture and for showing concerns for the wellbeing of pregnant and nursing mothers in the state.
