Benue NGO train girls in digital technology

As part of its own way to support the girl child education in Benue State, an NGO, Ngodoo Development Initiative (NDI), has trained 20 girls in digital technology.

The girls, drawn from secondary schools and undergraduate students, were trained in soft skills as a means of livelihood.

The Executive Director of the organization, Hon. Rachel Tyona, said the 3-day programme was part of activities to mark the International Day of the Girl Child that was celebrated recently.

Tyona, immediate past Speaker, Benue Youth Parliament, said the training is aimed at building the capacity of the Girl Child in the digital technology world, stressing that gone are the days when the field is male dominated.

She said the participants most of whom are aged 14 years were trained in the art of digital marketing, copy writing, drop shopping and product photo shot as well as blogging.

She stressed the need for government to give more opportunities to the girl child to enable her excel in their chosen carrer.

Member of the House of Assembly for Konshisha State Constituency, Hon. Cephas Dyako, commended the organizers for the initiative in training the Girl Child to be inventive and innovative by introducing them into the technology world.

Hon Dyako who lamented how recently, people don’t want help or subject themselves to trainings said “all they want is money and not how to make it.”

He commended the participants for their steadfastness, saying their training would break that jinx that the world of technology is the preserve of the male folk.

Some of the participants, Veronica Terdoo, John Kuran and Joy Benjamin encouraged the Girl Child to explore the digital world as lots of opportunities abound for them to better their future.

“We need more workshops like this to give opportunities to the Girl Child in digital technology. It is not all about taking care of the home, an enabling environment should be given to the Girl Child to showcase their talents in the technology world also,” Veronica said.
