  • Inaugurates committee on illegal mining, logging, roadblocks

Benue State Governor Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has approved the appointment of Mrs Theresa Nyitse as Acting Accountant General of the state.

With her appointment, Mrs Nyitse becomes the second woman to be appointed to that position after Mrs Nana Mede.

A letter signed conveying the appointment which was signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Joseph Alakali, Mrs. Nyitse’s appointment takes immediate effect.

Before her latest appointment, Theresa Nyitse was an Accountant in the Central Accounts of the Office of Accountant General, Benue State.

She is to take over from Mr. Agwaza Iorkpiligh who has been the Accountant General of the state.

In a related development, Governor Alia has inaugurated three committees on illegal mining, Illegal logging and illegal roadblocks for the state with a charge to ensure that the state’s natural resources are not longer taken away illegally.

Inaugurating the three committees at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House Makurdi, Alia regretted that Benue state which should be at par with other states of the federation, economic wise, has been held back due to illegal Minings, illegal loggings and illegal roadblocks.

He tasked the committees to ensure such does not derail his administration’s new dawn of growth and development, adding that Benue state can only prosper if such acts of criminality are controlled.

He thanked committee members for accepting to carry out the responsibility and urged them to work hard to bring out lasting solutions that will be for the overall good of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the committees, the Coordinator of the three committees, Col. Fidelis Chilleh, said they are mindful of the governor’s determination to salvage the state, and as such, they will carry out their responsibilities diligently, transparently and in the most accountable way possible.

The committee on Mining is headed by Engr. Comfort Adadu, PhD, with Comrade Goodwin Malu, Comrade Okpasu, and Comrade Innocent Nomsha, serving as members, while Barrister Denen Kwen is the secretary while the Committee on illegal roadblocks is chaired by Lt. Col. Geoffrey Iorbee (Rtd.), while Comrade Benjamin Akpur, Comrade Abah Michael Audu, Comrade Christopher Anyebe, Hon. Jato Ihua, Barrister Ephraim Haanongon, Dr Mrs Rose Saka, serves as members, with Mr Desmond Atov, as the committee secretary.

Also, the committee on illegal loggings has Lt. Col. Ikwue Okpachu (Rtd.) as chairman, Comrade Moses Mhon, Dr Emmanuel Ikyaagba, Barrister Wandoo Akosu, Dr Mrs Chiko Odeh, Tyowase Tor, as members, while Maj. Donatus Lyamson serves as the Secretary.

The three committees have been given two months to submit their reports to the governor.
