Bayelsa and Kaduna states have won the hosting rights for the 2028 and 2030 National Sports Festival respectively.
This is contained in a twenty two points communique issued at the end of the 2nd National Council on Sports meeting held in Calabar.
The communique which was endorsed by Shehu Dikko, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, NSC and the Director General Bukola Olopade.
The hosting rights to both states the council said is ” in recognition of the significant investments made by Governors Uba Sani and Senator Douye Diri in sports infrastructure development, that Bayelsa State will host the 2028 National Sports Festival, followed by Kaduna State in 2030″, it said.
The council also noted that the 3rd edition of the National Para Games will be held in March 2026 in Abuja and approved the establishment of the National Intermediate Games NIG for athletes aged 17-20.

In addition, the council approved the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre as a coordinating agency for doping in Nigeria.
Other significant decisions by the council is the approval of the NSC is the reduction the number of sports featured at the National Sports Festival.
The council also commended President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to advancing sports development in Nigeria, particularly through the redesignation of the NSC and his unprecedented support for the sports sector.
The council equally noted the presentation on the importance of emerging risks and the need to provide adequate insurance coverage for athletes, officials, and sports facilities during national sports competitions.
In addition, the council directed the NSC to ensure that State delegates provide centralised and verifiable insurance coverage for their contingents participating in competitions organised by the NSC.
The theme of the National Council was Business of Sports: Creating Jobs, Wealth, and Utility under the Renewed Hope Agenda”.
