Bayelsa State APC chieftain, Engr. Preye Aganaba, has commended Nigerians for voting President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressive Congress candidates who contested for elective seats in across the country.
He applauded particularly the people of Bayelsa State for their non-violence stance after the elections in the state, expressing hope that people would feel more of the impact of democracy that before.
He debunked the insinuation that President Buhari has fewer projects in the South-South region particularly Bayelsa State, highlighting the Surelight Protection Jobs in Odii and Yenegoa and also the Niger Delta Development Commission in the state as commendable efforts of the president.
Highlighting some of APC’s achievements in the state, he listed job creation, canalisation projects in Yenegoa, schools, roads, health centres amongst others.
According to him, APC stakeholders in the state are for the people and will surely bring more projects into the state.
On his perception of the cabinet members of the president and his charge on political appointees, Engr. Preye noted that he was not happy with the people who got appointment previously, lamenting that active party members were not considered, and it seemed the opposition party was more in power.
However, he expressed the belief that this would not happen as he was certain that the president meant well by his actions, acknowledging that the mandate of choosing appointees rests the president.
Preye disagreed with the belief being expressed by some people that the last general elections in the country were the worst in recent times. He said the APC government at the centre had provided a level playing field for the political parties and the electorate to exercise their civic responsibilities.
He was also happy that APC provided adequate security for the 2019 elections particularly in Odii, Bayelsa State, stating that there were no issues of electoral violence in the area.
While comparing election violence in the region between now and years ago, Engr. Preye noted that the reality on the ground showed that the last elections were a lot more peaceful.
“APC is working relentlessly to ensure that peace and non-violence become the new order of the day. There was very minimal violence in this year’s elections compared to previous elections in the years past,” he said, adding that the effort of President Muhammadu Buhari needed to be commended.
