•Sylva promises to tackle erosion in Bayelsa
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lambasted Bayelsa State governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Douye Diri in the November 11 governorship election over his comments which are considered as hate speech against its candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva.
Diri had over the weekend in Ekeremor accused Sylva of working against Peremobowei Ebebi and Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State, Petroleum (Oil), two prominent politicians from Ekeremor at different times and do not mean well for them.
However, the gubernatorial campaign council in a statement by its Director, Media and Publicity, Perry Tukuwei said attempts by Diri to whip up sentiments to escape imminent defeat are dead on arrival.
Tukewei who expressed dismay over Diri’s comments, condemned “this line of thought expressed publicly by the Governor of the state as false, misleading which is also capable of fanning the embers of discord and incite violence.”
According to him, “it is glaring that with the overwhelming support and acceptance for Sylva, Diri and the PDP are losing sleep and have resorted to hate speech, propaganda and mudslinging.’’
He advised that Diri should rather tell Bayelsans what he has done with their money and sell his programmes to the electorate like the APC has been doing in all the communities visited.
“Innovation as well as ideas for sustainable development for the Glory of All Lands forms the fulcrum for our Renewed Hope for Bayelsa Agenda as we crisscross communities in the state as part of campaign activities.
“We have enumerated steps to achieve our ideas for the good of the state and our dear Bayelsans have decided to look the way of the All Progressives Congress and Chief Timipre Sylva/Great Joshua Maciver thus no amount of propaganda will deter Bayelsans from this lofty objective.
‘’The governor should rather explain to Bayelsans the reason why 89 out of every 100 Bayelsan is multi dimensionally poor despite the huge financial resources that accrued to the state since he became governor.
‘’We remain resolute in our quest to make Bayelsa great again with Chief Timipre Sylva in the saddle. Bayelsans are wiser now.’’
Speaking over the weekend at Obogoro community, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Sylva said he intends to put in place stringent mitigating measures to cushion the effect of frequent recurrence of the twin natural disasters ravaging communities in Bayelsa
According to him, a climate change policy which will serve as a strategic early warning and early response to climate change with the objective of building a climate resilient Bayelsa will be put in place when elected as Governor of Bayelsa State.
