Bammixx: A return to the roots

By Rita Okoye

Bammixx is a Nigerian-born, UK-based DJ, composer, and producer specialising in Afrobeats and Amapiano, with a sound shaped by textured electronic layers.

Since relocating to the UK, he has built an international footprint, performing across the UK, France, the Netherlands, and Nigeria, and is fast becoming a recognisable name in the UK’s growing Afrobeats and Amapiano scene.

Artistic Style and Sound

Bammixx’s approach behind the decks is shaped by his background as a live sound engineer, giving him a technical ear that most DJs develop only over many more years.

His sets move fluidly between authentic Afrobeats and Amapiano and richer electronic textures, always rooted in groove and rhythm rather than following a fixed formula. He is known for spotlighting rising Afro-soul talent through curated compilations, using his platform to open doors for others coming up behind him.

Career Highlights

Within four years of relocating to the UK, Bammixx has gone from an emerging practitioner to sharing stages with internationally recognised artistes, a rapid rise that reflects both the pace and depth of his development as a DJ.

In the UK, he has performed alongside award-winning Nigerian DJ, DJ Consequence, at Zero Gravity — one of the world’s most recognised Afrobeats and Amapiano event series — across Birmingham and London. His productions have reached audiences well beyond the UK, with one track selected for broadcast on Sound City, Africa’s leading music channel, putting his sound in front of tens of millions of listeners.

He has also shared line-ups with DJ Cocainna, whose own trajectory in the UK scene mirrors the same rapid rise — climbing from emerging sets to becoming a recognised, award-winning name on the UK DJ circuit.

Their crossover reflects the wider momentum building around UK-based Afrobeats and Amapiano DJs earning recognition on their own terms.

Cultural Impact and Vision

As a Nigerian DJ bringing authentic Afrobeats and Amapiano culture to UK audiences, Bammixx has come to be seen as something of a cultural ambassador, adding to the diversity of the UK’s contemporary music scene.

He intends to deepen that contribution through original performances and productions, building connections between the UK’s Afrobeats scene and the wider Nigerian and African diaspora community.

Part of his longer-term vision is helping establish Afrobeats and Amapiano as fixtures within the UK’s mainstream music landscape, while mentoring emerging DJs from the diaspora and creating space for them to be heard.

This mission mirrors the one he carries back home in Nigeria, where he has said: “As a DJ, I’m here to contribute to the Nigerian music industry” — something he hopes to achieve through talent, professionalism, and the relationships he continues to build.
