The Ijebu Traditional Council of Obas has endorsed Senator Olamilekan Adeola Solomon (Yayi) and his deputy, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa Balogun, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the 2027 Ogun State gubernatorial election.

The council also threw its weight behind the senatorial bid of the incumbent governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to represent the Ogun East Senatorial District in the 11th National Assembly.

The endorsement took place during a meeting at the Palace of the Awujale in Ijebu-Ode. Governor Abiodun officially presented Senator Adeola and Alhaja Balogun—the daughter of the Asiwaju of Ijebuland, Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa—to the traditional rulers.

Speaking on behalf of the 56 traditional rulers who comprise the council, the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, Oba Lawrence Jaiyeoba Adebajo, declared that the APC candidate has their unwavering support due to his extensive development projects across the state.

Oba Adebajo said before his passing, the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, had pledged during the last Ojude Oba Festival to publicly endorse Senator Adeola as the next governor because of his transformative infrastructure interventions in Ijebuland.

The council, Oba Adebajo noted, stands firmly by the late monarch’s promise, adding that the Olu of Ilaro and Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, had also reached out to secure the council’s undivided cooperation.

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun described the day as historic, recalling how former Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba had presented him to the same council eight years ago.

He described Senator Adeola as a mature, intelligent leader ready to hit the ground running.

”In my search for a successor, I was looking for someone with business experience, political maturity, and leadership skills who could comfortably step into my shoes. I have found a worthy successor in Senator Olamilekan Adeola. He ticks all the boxes, ” Abiodun said.

Responding, Senator Adeola expressed deep appreciation to the governor, party leadership, and the royal fathers. He committed to inclusive governance and vowed to build on the current administration’s economic blueprints.

The engagement forms part of Senator Adeola’s ongoing statewide consultations across the three senatorial districts to foster unity and inclusive development ahead of the 2027 polls.
