The 13th Afe Babalola University 2025 convocation in Ado-Ekiti has once again witnessed the conferment of doctoral degrees on outstanding scholars, including Babatunde Munirideen Wahab, who has made a significant contribution to the field of Intelligence and Security Studies.

Wahab shared his experiences on his PhD journey, highlighting the challenges he faced and his plans for the future.

According to him, his research on the operational challenges of the Nigeria Police Force was a gruelling experience that spanned nine academic semesters.

“The journey was rough,” he admitted. “The sensitivity of the research area meant that I had to navigate through bureaucratic red tape to retrieve credible information from security agencies.”

Despite the challenges, Wahab’s research has greatly enlightened him about the Nigeria Police and their operational challenges.

“The police force is faced with formidable challenges that are quite daunting. However, my study has also shown me that with innovative strategies and collaborative approaches, we can make a significant impact in strengthening national security,” he revealed.

As a seasoned scholar, Wahab believes that his PhD journey has equipped him with the competence to guide younger scholars in research activities.

“I am committed to paying it forward by mentoring and supporting the next generation of researchers and scholars. My next plan is to synergise with the police and other security agencies in the country to create crime-solving platforms and quick response to distress situations. I believe that by working together, we can build safer communities and strengthen national security,” he emphasised.

His commitment to making a positive impact in his community is inspiring, and his research serves as a valuable contribution to the on-going efforts to reform the Nigeria Police Force.

“As I embark on this new chapter of my academic journey, I’m reminded of the importance of collaboration and innovation in addressing the security challenges facing our nation.”
