Babasky technologies debuts UNIKAM-FO1 jam-proof fiber-optic drone

 

In a significant breakthrough for modern tactical unmanned aviation, Babasky Technologies has successfully unveiled the UNIKAM-FO1 (Fiber Optics Kamikaze) loitering munition after it passed a rigorous series of operational flight trials at the Nigerian Defence testing range within the Military Cantonment in Jaji, Kaduna State.

The successful tests mark a major milestone in Nigeria’s indigenous defence technology development, introducing a drone system specifically designed to withstand one of the greatest threats facing modern battlefield operations—electronic warfare.

A New Era in Electronic Warfare

Unlike conventional radio-controlled First-Person View (FPV) drones that are vulnerable to electronic jamming, GPS interference and signal spoofing, the UNIKAM-FO1 employs an ultra-fine fiber-optic and Kevlar micro-tether that provides a completely secure physical connection between the drone and its operator.

This innovative architecture eliminates dependence on radio frequency communications, making the drone completely immune to electronic jamming while maintaining uninterrupted high-definition video transmission and real-time telemetry throughout its mission.

The reinforced Kevlar fiber-optic spool also enables the aircraft to operate effectively in difficult environments, including dense forests, mountainous terrain and complex urban settings where conventional radio signals often fail.

On technical capabilities, it is believed to be designed for precision strike operations in heavily defended environments, the UNIKAM-FO1 combines advanced maneuverability with secure communications and substantial strike capability.

It boasts of flight endurance of 9 to 15 minutes and operational range between 8km and 15km, depending on spool configuration.

Om successful flight validation, during the comprehensive testing programme, engineers evaluated spool deployment, flight stability, structural integrity and terminal guidance under realistic operational conditions.

The drone, equipped with the standard 5-kilometre fiber-optic spool, launched smoothly from its ground platform before accelerating beyond 120 kilometres per hour toward its designated target while maintaining uninterrupted communication with the operator.

The aircraft subsequently executed a highly accurate direct impact on the target, demonstrating exceptional terminal guidance precision while maintaining structural stability throughout its high-speed dive.

Additional recovery trials were also conducted using non-warhead configurations. During these exercises, the drone navigated complex terrain and multiple obstacles for approximately five minutes before safely returning for controlled recovery, validating the durability of the fiber-optic deployment system and overall flight performance.

Beyond its immunity to radio-frequency interference, the UNIKAM-FO1 is said to incorporate a robust safety architecture.

The drone’s 2.5-kilogram indigenous high-energy composite warhead is activated exclusively through a dedicated remote initiation system operating over the secure fiber-optic link. This approach eliminates the risks associated with wireless interception, accidental activation or hostile signal interference, ensuring that detonation remains entirely under the operator’s control until the precise moment of engagement.

As military operations increasingly confront sophisticated electronic warfare environments where conventional radio communications are vulnerable, the UNIKAM-FO1 said it represents a major advancement in tactical drone technology.

By combining the reliability of a hardwired fiber-optic communication system with the speed, agility and precision of a modern multi-rotor platform, Babasky Technologies has developed a next-generation loitering munition capable of operating effectively in contested environments where traditional wireless drones may lose connectivity.
