… Election peaceful -Speaker

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won in polling unit 8, Ward 14 inside Elizabeth Fowler School, Surulere, where the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila cast his vote.
Sanwo-Olu polled 114, beating hos closest rival, Gbadebo Rhodes -Vivour of the Labour Party (LP), who polled 55.
After casting his vote, the Speaker said that there has been some improvement in the electoral process, and urged the electoral commission to improve on any lapses recorded in the election.
“From what I can see and hear, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has upped the game. There has been a lot of improvement in preparation for the election. I believe materials came earlier, accreditation and the BiVAS is fairly good, I must tell you. As far as the people are concerned, so far so good, the election has been peaceful, I know of my polling unit here not outside.
“Though the turn out of people has been low, but before they close today they might increase in the number.
“What happened a couples of week ago was a learning process, INEC trying to introduce a technology to the presidential election which we all applauded. i don’t know what happened to the technology but like i said, it is a learning process.
“There were millions of registered voters out of which about 80 million collected their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC). However, not half of that number voted due to new technology but then that is not an excuse. I just try to say every system has to be perfected,” he said.
On the issue of violence, he said:”No violence occured here but we have to continue to educate ourselves and go out to exercise your franchise which is enshrined in our constitution. Part of our right is freedom of expression. We need to imbibe that culture of tolerance because I will not tolerate violence. Whoever carrries out any act of violence should be investigated.”
