…As PDP collapses structure for APC in Adazi Nnukwu
From Kenneth Udeh, Awka
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has continued its steady consolidation ahead of the forthcoming elections, as the entire executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adazi Ward 1, Anaocha Local Government Area, has formally defected to the ruling party.
The defection, which took place during the weekend in Adazi Nnukwu, was witnessed by the Deputy Governorship candidate of the APC and former Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Uche Ekwunife (CON), whose visit to the community coincided with the ceremony.
Announcing the decision on behalf of the group, the former PDP Ward Chairman, Chief Adolphus Nweke, stated that their move to the APC was inspired by the exceptional leadership qualities and integrity of APC leaders in the state, particularly Prince (Dr.) Nicholas Ukachukwu and Senator Uche Ekwunife.
According to him, both leaders have demonstrated vision, competence, and a sincere commitment to the transformation of Anambra State through inclusive and people-centered governance.
Welcoming the defectors, Senator Ekwunife commended their bold step and assured them of equal opportunities and full integration within the APC structure.
She reiterated her readiness to work closely with Prince Ukachukwu to actualize the party’s transformative development agenda for Anambra.
In her address, Ekwunife emphasized that an APC-led administration would restore the dignity and independence of Anambra’s traditional institutions, allowing traditional rulers to perform their statutory and cultural roles without political interference.
She revealed that the APC government would empower traditional rulers through enabling legislation, ensuring that they focus on leadership, conflict resolution, and the preservation of Igbo cultural heritage rather than being dragged into partisan politics.
Highlighting the party’s key development priorities, Senator Ekwunife disclosed that the APC government would:
Pay a new minimum wage of ₦102,000 to civil servants, Sponsor students annually for overseas training in technical and digital skills , Provide bursaries to students and incentives for senior citizens aged 65 and Extend the tenure of elected local government officials to four years and guarantee full local government autonomy to strengthen grassroots governance.
“Anambra deserves a government that respects its people, its institutions, and its values. Under the All Progressives Congress, we will restore the dignity of our traditional institutions and ensure that our royal fathers perform their cultural and statutory duties without political interference. We will empower them through appropriate legislation to enable them to provide leadership, preserve our heritage, and promote peace and unity in their communities.”
“The APC government will be about practical governance one that touches lives and delivers results. We will pay workers a living wage of ₦102,000, sponsor 250 young people abroad every year to acquire skills and technological expertise, support our elderly citizens, and give local governments full autonomy to function effectively. This is the Renewed Hope agenda in action, and I urge Ndi Anambra to join hands with us to rebuild our state on the foundation of accountability, inclusion, and progress,” Ekwunife stated.
She noted that the APC’s vision for Anambra is anchored on practical governance, focused on human capital development, social welfare, and economic rejuvenation.
She urged Ndi Anambra to embrace the Renewed Hope Agenda of the APC and support the party’s candidates in the forthcoming elections, assuring that an APC-led government would restore accountability, dignity, and genuine progress to the state.
