The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State recorded an 80 percent consensus outcome during its primary elections, a development party leaders say reflects growing unity and confidence in the leadership of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primaries, held across various constituencies in the state, produced consensus candidates for 33 out of 41 available positions, while only eight positions were contested.
Governor Bago emerged as the party’s governorship candidate through affirmation by consensus, a move party stakeholders described as a demonstration of widespread support for his administration and developmental agenda.
According to the breakdown of the results
by an independent observer, Oluwatosin Ogunkuade Jasper, two of the three senatorial tickets were secured through consensus in Zones B and C, while Zone A witnessed a contest.
For the House of Representatives seats, six constituencies produced consensus candidates, including Agwara/Borgu, Bida/Gbako/Katcha, Bosso/Paikoro, Kontagora/Mariga/Mashegu/Wushishi, Lavun/Mokwa/Edati, and Magama/Rijau. Four constituencies — Lapai/Agaie, Munya/Rafi/Shiroro, Suleja/Tafa, and Chanchaga — had contested primaries.
At the State House of Assembly level, 24 of the 27 seats were resolved through consensus, while Bosso, Suleja, and Tafa constituencies recorded contests.

Party officials attributed the high level of consensus to extensive consultations and engagement by Governor Bago with stakeholders, aspirants, and party members across the state in the days leading up to the exercise.
The governor was said to have promoted dialogue, inclusion, and collective decision-making in resolving internal party interests and ensuring peaceful conduct throughout the primaries.
Governor Bago also assured aspirants and party supporters of an inclusive administration that would continue to create opportunities for members committed to the development of the state.
Party leaders commended delegates, aspirants, and supporters for maintaining order and demonstrating political maturity during the process, noting that the successful conduct of the primaries has further strengthened the APC’s position in Niger State.
The outcome is expected to boost the party’s preparations and internal cohesion as political activities gradually build toward the 2027 general elections.
