The Deputy National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nze Chidi Duru, has dismissed the anxieties in some quarters that the ruling party will implode after its National Convention scheduled this weekend in Abuja.
Nze Duru hinged his arguement on party’s stability on what he described as a strategic “consensus arrangement” designed to unify party stakeholders.
He spoke to newsmen on the sidelines after the screening subcommittee cleared him to participate in the elective National Convention.
Duru also expressed confidence that the party is purposefully building a front “primed to win” across all geopolitical zones in the 2027 general elections.
The former federal lawmaker and Anambra State born businessman described the lead-up to the convention as a masterclass in political mediation, arguing that the consensus model is not an absence of competition, but sign of institutional maturity.

“I would like to see the exercise as majorly consensus building. It underpins the basic tenet for which APC is known—bringing people together behind the scenes and working hard to ensure there is no rupture and no implosion,” he said.
While admitting that disagreements are natural in a large party, Duru assured that the party’s ’s internal mechanisms are robust enough to prevent a breakdown.
“Once a party has the internal mechanism to bring people together and say, ‘Look, there can only be one person occupying a particular office,’ it augurs well for ensuring the party is built on firm foundations.”
He addressed strategies for the South-East and other regions ahead of 2027, stressing that the ruling party has moved past
“localizing” its charms. He further explained that the APC is no longer viewing the electorate through the lens of geographical expressions but as a single national entity.
“Our push and our mantra is to deliver all the entire states, including the FCT. Whether it is South-East, South-West, North-Central, or North-West, the party is positioned and primed to win a majority of the votes in all the nooks and corners of Nigeria,” he argued.
He also claimed that the influx of new high-profile members has solidified the APC’s status as the “party to beat, expressing confidence of landslide victory in a 2027.
Duru was candid about the current economic climate, acknowledging the “challenges” facing Nigerian households due to global economic shifts. However, he maintained that the APC-led government is already laying the groundwork for recovery.
“The government is taking steady steps to ensure that those challenges are moderated. In the next few months, you will begin to see the results of the hard work being done by this government. We are going to compete on the basis of what we have done for the Nigerian people—the development we have brought and, of course, putting food on the table,” Duru assured.
