A governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olanrewaju Olalekan Jim-Kamal, has unveiled a five-point agenda aimed at transforming Lagos through free education, healthcare reforms, youth empowerment, infrastructure development and mechanised agriculture ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Jim-Kamal, who recently unveiled Mrs Abiola Okoya as his deputy governorship aspirant after a stakeholders’ meeting with campaign coordinators, said his administration would focus on policies that directly improve the welfare of residents if elected governor.

Speaking during the unveiling in Lagos, he said his first priority would be the introduction of automated free education at all levels across the state, including adult education programmes for elderly citizens who never had access to formal schooling.

According to him, healthcare delivery would also receive urgent attention through the establishment of automated free health services aimed at ensuring affordable medical care for all Lagos residents.

The APC aspirant added that his administration would prioritise the welfare of women, nursing mothers and elderly citizens through social intervention programmes and financial support initiatives.

“I have a special love for elderly people because of my late mother, and I want to transfer that same love to all elderly women and senior citizens in Lagos State,” he said.

He disclosed that senior citizens aged 60 years and above would receive monthly stipends, while old people’s homes would be established and strengthened across the state.

On infrastructure, he promised to decongest major parts of Lagos through massive housing projects, road reconstruction and urban renewal programmes.

He stressed that poor road networks remained one of the major challenges confronting residents, adding that his administration would embark on total reconstruction and upgrading of roads across the state.

The governorship aspirant also pledged to revolutionise agriculture through mechanised farming and fishing, saying he intends to replicate agricultural systems practised in countries such as Norway and Mauritius.

According to him, the fifth agenda of his administration would focus on eliminating youth unemployment within one year through strategic investments and public-private partnerships.

He explained that unemployed youths across the state would be directed to register through their respective local governments immediately after his inauguration.

Jim-Kamal said beneficiaries would receive financial support and employment opportunities as part of a comprehensive empowerment scheme designed to boost productivity and reduce poverty.

“We have the manpower, the team and the resources to make Lagos work for everybody. We know where to get the funds through public-private partnerships and international collaborations,” he stated.

The politician further disclosed that foreign investors were willing to partner with Lagos State in agriculture and human capital development projects worth billions of dollars if he emerges victorious in the APC governorship primaries.

He also emphasised the need for improved security across the state, promising to strengthen surveillance and monitoring systems at entry and exit points in Lagos.

Jim-Kamal, a graduate of the University of Lagos who also obtained a master’s degree in the United States, described himself as a committed grassroots politician whose political career dates back to 1988, shortly after completing the National Youth Service Corps programme.

The former governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party in the 2023 Lagos governorship election also maintained that there is no consensus candidate within the APC, insisting that transparent primaries remain the best democratic option for party members.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting electoral reforms aimed at strengthening internal democracy within political parties.
