The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has slammed the Ogun State Chairman of the Labour Party, Mrs Oluwabukola Soyoye, for tagging the ongoing statewide e-registration exercise of members by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a digital fraud.
Salisu dismissed the LP chairman’s allegations as “baseless and unfounded”, saying that it was out of place for her to tag the exercise as a digital fraud since either she or her party was not participating in it.
The senator stated this while fielding questions from journalists shortly after he renewed his membership of the APC at Bode-Olude, Opeji Ward 10, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party in a statement signed by state chairman had earlier accused the All Progressives Congress of using its ongoing electronic membership registration to allegedly manipulate figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Soyoye claimed that the APC’s e-registration exercise was designed to digitally inflate its membership strength and project a false image of popularity in the state.
She further alleged that the ruling party had resorted to electronic registration because it could no longer mobilise people openly, insisting that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun had suffered widespread rejection due to what she described as underperformance.
Salisu, however, defended the APC’s statewide e-registration of its members as a critical tool for strengthening democracy and national security, building a database to ascertain the identity of membership while also preventing proliferation.
He said rather than dabbling into the affairs of the APC, the Labour Party should dedicate energy into resolving the party’s internal crisis.

“You can only tag something a digital fraud if you are required to participate in it. I think they (LP) should spend more effort to go and determine whether they still have a party and to also reconcile among themselves.
“If Nigeria is doing the national population census, how is it a matter of concern to Ghana? If the APC e-registration is a digital fraud, go and attempt to do your own and let us see”, the senator said.
He maintained that the ongoing APC e-registration is to secure Nigeria’s identity, improve security and highlight the use of tech to verify members.
Salisu noted further that the registration is based on three things which are to verify identities, to highlight digital infrastructure importance and to serve as a strategic move for the APC.
He commended President Bola Tinubu and the Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun for providing leadership and direction for the party at the national and state levels, stressing that the exercise is transforming the political process and deepening democracy and technology.
The senator later inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the crucial Arakanga-Mawuko-Opeji feeder road, a project he facilitated, pledging to ensure its timely completion.
He described the road as a vital economic artery for the agrarian communities, enabling the transport of food and agricultural produce to urban markets.
Senator Salisu assured residents of the community that he would maintain oversight to ensure the project meets expectations and is delivered promptly, ultimately enhancing connectivity and economic activity for the people of Ogun Central.
He, however, disclosed that the ongoing rehabilitation of the 7.5km abandoned Camp-FUNAAB Road in Abeokuta will be completed within one month.
