Anxiety in Asaba over monarch’s health

From Paul Osuyi, Asaba

Residents of Asaba, the Delta State capital, are apprehensive over the health condition of the paramount traditional ruler, the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof) Joseph Chike Edozien (CFR).

The 99-year traditional ruler returned from a long medical trip abroad before the 2023 general elections, and had recently set machinery in motion for the celebration of his centenary birth anniversary billed for July 28, this year.

But there are growing concerns that his health might have deteriorated as of Wednesday evening.

Anxious residents of Asaba cut short their celebrations of the Super Eagle’s triumph over South Africa at the ongoing AFCON following the monarch’s health condition.

Palace sources were mute over the mute as at the time of filing this report on Thursday.

Prof. Edozien, who is the 13th Asagba of Asaba, ascended the throne of his ancestors on July 1, 1991.

A renowned Professor of Medicine, Edozien was conferred with the national award of the Commander of the Federal Republic by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003.
