Anambra police storms kidnapper’s hideout recovers AK-47 rifle, 2 magazines

Anambra State police operatives have intensified manhunt for the kidnappers when they stormed the criminals hideout at Awgbu in Orumba North LGA and recovered AK-47 rifles with two magazines loaded with 50 rounds of ammunition

This followed the smashing of a notorious kidnap gang on the night of Friday 8th March, 2024 at Awgbu, the operatives have intensified efforts to arrest the kidnappers who escaped from the scene of the shootout.

The State Public Relations Officer DSP Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement said that the police operatives while combing the surrounding bushes on Saturday morning, Police and the Local Vigilante recovered a loaded AK-47 Rifle with double magazines containing 50 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

He said that the weapon was promptly rendered safe and taken into custody for further investigation and analysis.

The Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, praised the diligence of the Joint Team and promised to reward it for its commitment to public safety.

The commissioner has directed the Command’s Special Anti Kidnapping Unit at Awkuzu take over the case for proper investigation and arrest the fleeing kidnappers.

Ikenga said that Commander of Anti kidnapping Unit has assured that it will leave no stone unturned until the kidnap suspects are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the four male victims rescued from the kidnappers last Friday have all been re-united with their joyous families.
