Igbo youths under the aegis of the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) have kicked against the Anambra Traditional Law initiated by the state governor, Charles Soludo.

President General of the Igbo conglomerate group Goodluck Ibem, in a statement on Friday, condemned the law which it claimed tend to suffocate the wish of the people.

Ibem said COSEYL particularly detest the banning of conferment of chieftaincy titles to people outside the domain of a stool without the State government’s approval. And also part of the law he alleged that encourages payment of outrageous taxes and levies.

According to him “This anti-democratic and anti-people laws enacted by Governor Soludo is meant to strangulate the people and take life out of them.

“It is unfortunate that Governor Soludo has turned democracy which is meant to serve the people into a personal and private venture that will benefit only him and his family.

“It is difficult to explain how a governor will enact a law that deprives the people that traditional rights and privileges while also collecting outrageous taxes and levies to the turned of N3000 daily from poor old men and women who are struggling to make ends meet. What a wickedness,” Ibem said.

He added “Governor Soludo have really destroyed the foundation and principles upon which democracy was built on in Anambra State.

“The Anambra State Traditional Institution law banning conferment of chieftaincy titles to people outside the domain of a stool without the state government’s approval is dictatorial, anti-democratic, anti-people, wicked and barbaric.

“It is not a law but a decree because it does not represent the interest of the people but it is aimed at protecting the interest of a dictator who wants to remain in power against the popular will of the people.

“Governor Charles Soludo enacted that law because he knows very well that he has failed woefully in providing democracy dividends to the good people of Anambra State and in other to remain in power, he wants to intimidate and coerce the traditional rulers and institutions into doing his bidding which will not work.

“The traditional institution is older than Governor Soludo and those who know him should advice him to retrace his step and allow the traditional institutions to function the way the have before now.

“Governor Soludo should know that all his anti-democratic and anti-people laws are dead on arrival,” Ibem stated.
