The number of aspirants for the Anambra State governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has increased with Senator Andy Uba and Barth Nwibe picking their expression of interest and nomination forms.

Uba, who is currently representing Anambra South Senatorial District at the National Assembly had stormed the APC national secretariat in Abuja with a team of 10 members of the upper chamber from the APC, as well as a team of Anambra women and youths.

Speaking to the media after paying the compulsory N5.5million for the form, Senator Uba said he was the only candidate in the race that can beat the incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano, noting that others were not prepared for the race.

He insisted that with his numerous experience as a congress man, as well as having served as a governor in the state, he cannot see any reason he won’t win the ticket.

“If you look at all of us that are running, who has the best chance? Who has the experience? I have been a governor in Anambra State before, I have been senator twice. I have my structure in the state. I don’t see why I can’t win the election.

“Those that are running, I have not heard anything they have done, they have not won election and they are not prepared to win election. We need somebody with the capacity and I know we have that capacity to remove the sitting governor.”

Also speaking after purchasing the form, Nwibe, who described himself as a grassroots politician, noted that he has paid his dues as a leading member of the defunct ACN that was among the legacy parties that formed APC.

Nwibe expressed his desire to move the state out of its present state, adding that he has a vision to make Anambra the second  city in Nigeria after Lagos.

He also noted that he has the qualities to win the APC ticket, under a free and fair primary election.

“I am in the race to provide food and a living for my people, I want to provide employment, infrastructure and good leadership.

“I am not worried about former governors and veteran politicians who have just joined our party. We have put in place structures that can win us the ticket because we are really for the interest of Anambra people,” he said.
