Anambra State Government, yesterday, said that it would commence telemedicine practice in the state in two weeks time.
It said the move was part of the efforts to ensure that healthcare services is made available to Ndi Anambra in all parts of the state.
Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Afam Obidike, disclosed this during the monthly congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State chapter, at Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka.
Represented by Dr Uju Okoye, Obidike said that the initiative would be launched in about 14 days time and that all parts of the state, particularly the rural and hard-to-reach areas would be adequately covered.
He explained that telemedicine was simply the use of telecommunication gadgets to remotely diagnose and treat patients irrespective of their locations.
He added that the telecommunication devices would allow doctors and patients to see themselves so as to be able to communicate effectively. He said the nurses attending to the patients would wear the devices while taking instructions from the doctors.
