National Coordinator, All Progressives Grand Alliance Media Warriors Forum, Evang. Chinedu Obigwe yesterday said those labouring to pit the highly revered Archbishop Valerian Okeke and Governor Soludo against each other are doing that in vain since there is no controversy over the Anambra burial law.

Obigwe while reacting to recent media reports that the Catholic Church and Governor Soludo are on a warpath over the implementation of the state burial law said that disgruntled opposition elements are labouring to strain the cordial relationship between Archbishop Valerian Okeke, the Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha and Governor Soludo but they will fail and remain failures.

Noting that Gov. Soludo is a stickler to what is right and someone that will not shy away from saying the painful truth no matter who is involved, Obigwe disclosed that the Anambra burial law being promoted by Governor Soludo predated Soludo’s administration in 2019 while it was the church that pushed for the enactment of the law.

“The only thing Governor Soludo is saying without minding whose ox is gored is that there is a need for our people to adhere to the provisions of that Anambra burial law because it’s for the betterment of our society.

“Governor Soludo’s main reason for promoting the law is because of his own belief that the best we can do in our society is to give the living a befitting living and give the dead a modest burial”

“Governor Soludo will proudly tell you that he did it for his Father and if he can do it, you too can as well do it. Governor Soludo late Father died at 92 and he sent a message to people with his modest burial ceremony. When the man was alive, Governor Soludo gave him a befitting living but when he died , he gave him a modest burial.

He noted that Soludo’s promotion of adherence to Anambra burial law at Rev. Fr. Obimma mothers’ burial was not done with bad intentions.

“On assumption of office, Governor Soludo made it clearly known that he will not preside over a lawless State and that we must endeavour to be adhering to the provision of our laws.

The law canvasses the need to do everything for the living and bury the dead in a modest way. Discouraging waste of money during burial ceremony is not bad rather it’s something that should be encouraged”.

“Governor Soludo will not stop pushing for the full implementation of Anambra burial law and the Church should join hands with him to do that because it’s good for our society. Nobody can strain the cordial relationship of Governor Soludo and our highly revered Archbishop Valerian Okeke” Obigwe stated.
