In another fascinating milestone, no fewer than 16 graduates of the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), recently bagged First Class Honours at the just concluded Bar Final Examinations of the Nigerian Law School.
This is in addition to 58 others who made Second Class Upper in the same examinations.
The First Class graduands, according to a memo to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Bashir Omipidan, include Barakat Ogungbe, Adeniyi Isreal, Mubarak Owoade, Kamaldeen Akanji and Farida Adeowu.
Others are Tomiwa Ademiju, Glory Oladipo, Joel Victor, Nneoma Mbalewe and Abdullahi AbdulAzeez.
Others are Boluwatife Oni-Kayode, Adeola Abass, Mariam Oyewumi, Nana Aisha AbdulMaleeq, Rahmat Aduke Oba and Dorcas Oyedele.
In the letter, the Dean noted that it was the first time in the history of the Faculty and the university that such a large number of its graduates would make First Class in the Final Bar Examinations.
Prof. Omipidan explained that the impact of the vice chancellor’s administrative style and investment in the service delivery of the Faculty reflected in the fascinating performance of the alumni.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole said that the performance is a thing of joy not just for the Faculty but also for the university.
The VC, in a statement issued by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, said that he had always expected the faculty to make record-breaking achievements, saying that it remains one of the best faculties of Law in Nigeria in terms of staffing, facilities and service delivery.
Egbewole, who is also a Member of the Body of Benchers, noted that the feat reflects not only the individual industry, brilliance, discipline, and resilience of the alumni, but also the strong academic foundation and culture of excellence nurtured at the university.
While commending the 16 First Class graduands for writing their names in gold, the VC praised all other graduates from the faculty who also passed the Bar exams with various grades.
The Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law described the accomplishment as a “proud moment for the university and reflection of its ceaseless commitment to academic and professional excellence”.
Prof. Egbewole, the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), encouraged the graduands to continue to serve as good ambassadors of the University in all their future endeavours.
