Eagles must play friendlies before Cameroon
BY BOLAJI OKUNOLA
Former NFF secretary general, Fanny Amun has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to organise world class friendlies for the Super Eagles ahead of next year’s double header against Cameroon in the Russia 2018 qualification series.
Amun in an exclusive chat with Daily SunSports warned that Eagles need matches to jell in the games against Cameroon which he insisted are going to be tough. He said he was taken aback when he heard that the January friendly against Egypt has been cancelled.
“I was shocked when I heard that the friendly match against Egypt billed for January has been cancelled. I think its high time we realised the importance of friendly games. The Egyptians knocked us out of the 2017 AFCON, playing them would have been a good warm up for Rohr and his boys. We must not fritter away other opportunities for a friendly before Cameroon comes calling,” Amun said.
Continuing, Amun said: “ Organising friendlies for the team won’t only help the team but will also serve the purpose of making Rohr to see other players who could add value to the team.”
Amun stressed that the Eagles can not afford to go to sleep after making a good start to the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
The Eagles it would be noted have won their first two games of the qualifiers beating Zambia away 2-1 and overrunning Algeria at home by 3-1.
