Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Ltd., renowned for its development of the innovative Noiler birds, has unveiled its latest initiative, Noiler City, designed to offer a sustainable solution to the escalating food prices in Nigeria.

The groundbreaking project addresses the sharp rise in egg and meat costs, as documented by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Food Price Report, which revealed a staggering 54% increase in egg prices over the past year, with an additional 50% surge by August 2024.

In response to the urgent need for affordable and reliable protein sources, Noiler City aims to provide urban residents with fresh eggs and meat directly from their homes. Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, Group Managing Director of Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Ltd., expressed his eanthusiasm about the initiative: “We are thrilled to introduce Noiler City, a project dedicated to empowering urban families to take control of their food supply amidst rising food costs. Having already transformed food security in rural areas by providing over a million households with a dependable source of meat and eggs, we now bring this successful model to the city to enhance urban food security and self-sufficiency.”

The Noiler City initiative builds upon the success of Noiler birds in rural communities, which have improved food security for over 1.4 million households through a sustainable farming model. The new initiative brings these benefits to urban areas with a specially designed package for city residents.

The Noiler City Package offers a comprehensive and affordable solution for urban poultry farming at N150,000. This package includes a durable Battery Cage with a capacity for up to 16 birds, along with 10 five-week-old Noiler birds—6 females and 4 males. The females are prolific egg layers, producing at least 150 eggs per cycle from 20 weeks, while the males, maturing by 14 weeks, are ideal for meat production. Investing in this package can lead to savings of up to 48% on egg and meat costs.

To ensure the well-being of the birds, the package includes 10kg of Noiler feed, 100g of Divertamin multivitamin, and 500ml of disinfectant. Additionally, the Noiler City Management Manual provides detailed guidance, making the package suitable even for those with limited poultry experience.

Mrs. Itoro Awala-Ale, Business Development Manager, emphasized the package’s significance: “Our inclusive package is crafted to empower city dwellers, regardless of their poultry farming experience or space constraints, to thrive in urban settings. Once the hens begin laying, you will benefit from a steady supply of fresh eggs right in your backyard, allowing you to grow your food and provide a consistent protein source for your family.”

Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Ltd. remains dedicated to enhancing food security and self-sufficiency across Nigeria. With Noiler City, the company seeks to transform urban food systems and make high-quality, affordable poultry products accessible to all city residents. The Noiler bird, a dual-purpose breed, excels in both egg and meat production, growing three times faster and laying five times more eggs than native chickens, making it an efficient choice for urban poultry farming.
