Authorities of the Ondo State government owned University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo have given the Chairman of the university’s branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University (SSANU), Mr Seyi Abayomi seven days ultimatum to retract his allegation of threat to life leveled against the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe or face legal actions.

Abayomi had alleged that the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Adejuyigbe was after his life, claiming that his life was no longer safe.

But, the university in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Mr Isaac Oluyi stated that
Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe did not orchestrate any threat to the life of Seyi Abayomi and or any member of SSANU.”

Oluyi said the Vice Chancellor only exposed the evil plan to keep the university in the dark with a view to impeding its progress.

The statement reads in part “the attention of the management of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo has been drawn to a malicious publication titled “Ondo university staff expose threat to life of SSANU chairman allegedly orchestrated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adejuyigbe”.

“This publication is a calculated attempt to malign the personality of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, who within four months of assumption of office, has taken the institution from the verge of precipice occasioned by nepotism and tribal sentiments to the right track of remarkable  progress UNIMED has always been known for. The allegation of threat to life is a cheap blackmail by detractors and agents of destabilization. It is laughable that the failed strategy adopted under the administrations of the first and the second substantive Vice-Chancellors is at play again

“UNIMED is a model medical school known for excellence nationally and internationally. It is unfortunate that some sections of the university want the institution run as an extension of their village where they can gather to tell the Vice Chancellor what to do and what not to do. When such outrageous and ludicrous demands are not acceded to, they resort to name calling, blackmail and rumour-mongering. It’s because of this their stock-in-trade strategy that a town hall meeting was called on the 20th November, 2025 to set the records straight.

“The Vice-Chancellor, at the town hall meeting, made it clear to the university community with proofs the shenanigans of SSANU regarding Bursar, staff employed between January and March (prior to her appointment as the VC), the renewal of appointment of Prof. Augustinah Duyilemi, Director of Centre for Gender and Health Equity, among others.

“Shockingly, it was discovered at the meeting that NATT was not part of the arrangement as claimed; they only used their name on the letterhead for the agitation to give the demand some credibility. The Chairman of NAAT came out openly to dissociate his association from the arrangement. This denial exposed the writers of the letter (Mr Seyi Abayomi and Mr Jeremiah Ọjọ́) as just using the union’s name for personal vendetta and selfish interests.

“This exposure before the whole University community led to conjuring of this wicked narrative of being trailed by faceless individuals to whip up sentiments and save their faces. When this did not work against our dedicated, diligent and dutiful Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, they resorted to the latest antic of discrediting her on the pages of newspaper as exemplified by the Sahara Reporters’ publication of Saturday, 20th December, 2025. Accusing the VC of orchestrating the trail of Seyi Abayomi or threat to his life is an evil act taken too far.

“Prof Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe is only doing her lawful duties to put the University back on the right  track.  What we don’t understand is why anyone will be afraid of the good deeds of this erudite Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health.”
