Al-Makura to construct houses for low income earners

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has disclosed that his administration would use the space of 21 hectares of land in Karu Local Government Area of the state neighboring Abuja to construct houses for low income earners for workers in the state and the FCT.

He stated that the aim was to improve the welfare of the people as well as provide opportunity for more citizens to own houses.

Al-Makura who stated this while performing the flag off ceremony of the sight and service scheme reiterated the commitment of his administration in ensuring security, sanity and housing to the people to ease up the burden of accommodation for those in the state and those in the corridors of the federal capital territory(FCT) Abuja.

The flag off which is coming 21 years after its first attempt in 1997 is the cardinal policy of the state government which is to developed infrastructures across the state is the brain child of the Nasarawa Geographic Information System (NAGIS).

According to him, the flag-off of the sight and services scheme was aimed at attracting developers with the interest of housing to invest on the soil of Nasarawa State, adding that government cannot afford not to develop the greater Karu master plan due to its proximity to the federal capital.

He said “government is ready and has put every machinery in place to make the project a realisable dream, noting that plots will be allocated to private spirited individuals with the interest of estate development.

“In six months when the project might have been completed it will offer to the low and medium class income earners, on a space of  21 hectare which will include a bus terminal that will give the estate a befitting outlook that can add value to Abuja,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the state government project consultant on projects development, Architect Shehu Tukur said the idea which is the second attempt is purely to established residential layout to ensure urban renewal, and commended the governor for resilience and the will to actualise the project.

Also speaking, the commissioner for lands and survey Hon Sony Agassi  said the introduction of NAGIS had availed the state the opportunity to be placed  higher in the sub African region in the area of land administration.
