Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State, has promised to settle the medical bill of a police officer, Inspector Bathelomew Bako, posted to Operation NASARA on special duty.
Bako was shot by armed robbers in May 2016 and was abandoned by the police authorities without any medication.
The pathetic incident took place on May 5, 2016 at Angwantashi-Obi Road, Lafia, Nasarawa State, when the robbers, who disguised themselves as soldiers in military uniforms, pumped three bullets into Bako’s his leg. It was gathered that the police officer was left unattended to by the authorities.
Insp. Bako, a Numana by tribe, hails from Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State with Police Registration number 189149.
Bako had alleged that the police authorities wished him dead as all his efforts to get them treat him fell on deaf ears.
However, luck smiled on Bako, on Tuesday, when Governor Al-makura, while inspecting projects round the capital city, cited him at the gate of the Central Police Station, Lafia undergoing renovation on clutches with swollen legs with bullets wounds.
According to a signed statement by the governor’s Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Ahmed Tukur, Al-makura, immediately directed that the officer be moved to the Orthopaedic hospital for proper medical attention, adding that Nasarawa State Government would pick the bills to ensure the officer regains back his health.
