The police in Akwa Ibom have arrested seven suspected armed robbers after raiding their hideout and recovered firearms and motorcycles in Ikot Osong village in Obot Akara local government area of the state.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Timfon John and made available to journalists in Uyo at the weekend stated that the suspected seven-man gang members were arrested as a result of the ongoing investigation after their gang leader was nabbed in previous operations.

John disclosed that the gang members were terrorising the Ikot Local Government area of the state before they were arrested.

“The operation, which led to the arrest of seven suspects, is a direct result of on-going efforts to curb violent crime in the region.

John said the raid was sequel to the death of one of the gang leaders during a foiled robbery attempt and the subsequent apprehension of the overall gang leader who was later found in a hideout in Imo State.

“The gang leader’s confession provided critical information that led the police to their operational base.

“At approximately 02:30AM on August 8, 2025, a team of operatives launched a raid on the syndicate’s hideout located in Ikot Osong village, Obot Akara Local Government Area.

“This location also served as a shrine where the suspects reportedly fortified themselves before their operations.”

She said suspects arrested at the scene were David Effiong Silas, Etido Udo Lazarus, Etimbuk Thursday Udofia and Ime Effiong Silas aka “Udo Doctor,”

Others were Joseph John Nelson, Nduese Solomon John and Imo Effiong Udofia respectively.

The police spokesperson listed items recovered to include one locally made, cut-to-size double-barrel gun, two expanded cartridges and one live cartridge, five motorcycles, face masks among others
