Akabike, Obodoeze, dies at 85

Sir Aaron Ibegbuna Akabike, of Awkuzu, in Anambra State, is dead.

Akabike, also known as Obodoeze was 85 years.

The deceased was educated at our Lady’s High School Onitsha and City of London Polytechnic where he acquired Bachelor and Masters degrees in Economics.

A reputed banker, he worked with Barclays Bank DCO, in the United Kingdom, and later returned to Nigeria where he managed many branches of the bank on its change of name to Union Bank Plc. He was a community leader, president general of Awkuzu Progressive Union (APU) for many years and pioneered the establishment of some projects in the town, including the Post Office, Civic Centre and St. James Anglican Church.

He is survived by a wife, Lady Rose Akabike, many children and grandchildren.

A service of songs was held in his honour, at his Enugu residence, on Monday September 25, 2017, while a commendation service at Cathedral of Good Shepherd, Enugu, will hold today. His remains will be laid to rest tomorrow, September 28, after a funeral service at St. James Anglican Church, Awkuzu.
