Gunmen have killed a youth, Ikechukwu Idenyi Ali, in Ngbo community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The gunmen invaded a market in the community where the deceased owned a shop and killed him.
Gunmen have been attacking security agencies and residents of the community, with many of them killed since this year.
Two months ago, gunmen attacked the hotel of the local government Chairman, Ikechukwu Odono, and burnt several cars in the hotel. One person was killed during the attack. In the latest incident, which occurred in Okwor Ngbo market in the community, the gunmen stormed Ikechukwu Idenyi’s shop in the market and shot him severally, when he was locking the shop.
Chairman of the local government, Ikechukwu Odono, confirmed the incident.
“Actually, yesterday, around 10pm, unknown gunmen came to our village market, Okwor, with a motor bike and shot one Ikechukwu Ali Idenyi, while he was locking up his shop in the night hours of the day. This morning, when the information came to me, I quickly went there, alongside the Deputy Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Chinedu Onah, policemen and other relevant political stakeholders of Ohaukwu local government area, who condemned the gravity of the crime.
“When I got there, many youths of that community engaged in a peaceful demonstration to condemn the painful killing of the deceased in his shop, and after addressing them, I made sure that no life or property was tampered with,” Odono said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said security operatives have been deployed to the community over the incident.
