The Newly appointed Chairman of Enugu State Council of Traditional Rules, His Royal Majesty Igwe Samuel Asadu, the traditional ruler of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State has donated a house to an indigent member of the community.

The one-room and parlor self-contained building was donated to Mr. Onyekachi Ozioko, a Vulcanizer by the royal father.

Daily Sun gathered that the building was the number 8 house the traditional ruler had built and donated to indigent members of the community in less than a decade.

Igwe Asadu in a remark in Nsukka on Tuesday while handing over the keys of the building to the beneficiary said that it was the empathy and sympathy he had for the indigent and less privileged members of the community that moved him to build the house for the man.

“I am not helping the poor or building houses because I am the richest in the community, but it is because of empathy and sympathy I have for a fellow human being, and my desire to give them a sense of belonging.

“This house l am handing over today is the eighth house I have built and handed over to the beneficiaries in Edem-ani community.

“This very building is unique because is the first one I donated since Thursday last week Enugu State Government appointed me as the Chairman of State Traditional Rulers Council,” he said.

He urged Ozioko to pack into the house immediately and start making plans on who he should marry, this was even as he cautioned him against incessant taking off alcohol and constituting a nuisance in the community.

“You must desist from drinking too much alcohol and causing nuisance in the community, I expect you to start preparing for marriage as age is no longer on your side.

“At your present age you are supposed to have married with children, I will be happy to hear you know distant time that you are married,” he said.

The monarch’s appeal for help to enable Ozioko to furnish the building with household items got an immediate response from community members present who started making monetary and material donations.

HRM Queen Happiness Asadu, wife of the monarch donated N200,000 on behalf of herself and her children to help in equipping the vulcanizer’s new house.

In a remark, Chief Gabriel Ezema who spoke on behalf of title holders in the area thanked and blessed the traditional ruler for the building and numerous things he has been doing in the community, and prayed to God to give him long life and prosperity.

“This house you built is not only a relief to Ozioko but to all of us in this area.

“I know this is not the first time you are building a house for indigent members of the community, I know you have built many like this in this community, our prayer is God will reward you abundantly,” he said.

Ezema commended the wife of Asadu for being a good wife, supporting the husband as well as allowing him to help the community and poor people.

“I am not surprised because, behind every successful man, there is a good woman behind him,” he said.

Responding, Mr. Onyekachi Ozioko thanked the monarch and his Royal family for their benevolence and for rescuing him from the valley of hopelessness with a beautiful roof over his head.

He said that he almost lost hope in life when at 55 years old he could not show any tangible thing he achieved in life as a man, noting that Igwe Ogadagidi has given him reason to live.

“I’m humbled and speechless by Igwe’s gesture, this is so because my life for the past four decades now has been miserable.

“Not that I am not hustling to be a better person, but I can’t tell why life and things of the world have been tormenting me.

“I will reciprocate this gesture by avoiding excess intake of alcoholic drinks and completely avoid my old ways of life as well as look for a life partner to marry,” he said.

Recall that the Enugu State Government had in a statement signed by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the secretary to the state government last week Thursday announced that Gov Ndubuisi Mbah has approved the appointment of Asadu as the new Chairman of Traditional Rulers Council in Enugu State.

The monarch, Daily Sun also gathered recently empowered 65 youths of the Edem-Ani Ogwugwu community with N1m each to enable them to start any business of their choice, among other philanthropic gestures to the community.
