Following Daily Sun’s report on a workplace assault involving a Turkish national at Motech United Industry Limited, the survivor, Thompson Emmanuel, has been compensated with an undisclosed amount of money after he explored an out-of-court settlement with the company.

Thompson, a Nigerian welder with the company was attacked on October 25, 2024, with a helmet after his estranged employer sacked him. As gathered, he was hit with the helmet when he demanded his wages before leaving the company premises.

Updating the media in Kaduna on the development on Friday, Thompson said, he agreed to settle out of court based on the advice of his legal team.

“We have settled the case out of court. I appreciate the organisation and individuals, including civil society and the media, who stood by me to ensure justice is served. So, I’m okay with the settlement. For now, my doctor asked me to stay away from work for an additional month to observe the status of my eye and chest.

“Therefore, I look forward to January to return to work after which I will think of what to do with what they compensated me with,” he said. On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Eagle Brain Human Rights Organisation, Mr. Daniel Ejembi, said: “Immediately the matter was reported to us, we swung into action by demanding explanations from the company in question.

“After we waited for a talk and that was not forthcoming, we launched a legal process to ensure justice is served. They later convened a meeting where they agreed to our terms and conditions to the joy of the survivor. He was convinced with their offer and that is our happiness.”

Ejembi advised Nigerians to learn to reach out to people whenever their rights, as human beings, are being infringed.

“To multinationals here in Nigeria, our citizens are not slaves. They deserved to be respected and treated as humans,” he cautioned.
