African Fashion Week Nigeria has officially kicked off its season with a culturally rich and visually striking pre-event: An Evening of Indigo Elu.
The gathering, held in Lagos, was hosted in partnership with the British High Commission and offered a deep dive into Nigeria’s indigenous dyeing traditions.
Focused on the iconic indigo fabric known locally as “Elu”, the evening was designed to foster cultural pride, international conversation, and artistic appreciation. It also signaled the commitment of African Fashion Week to celebrating heritage while engaging in global collaborations.
The planning and media execution were carefully led by the AFWN operations team. One of the standout figures in the coordination was Abosede Shafe, Project Manager and media relations for African Fashion Week Nigeria, who worked behind the scenes to ensure the event aligned with the week’s broader vision of heritage-driven fashion diplomacy.
“This event was about storytelling,” one guest commented. “It’s inspiring to see fashion being used as a bridge—not just a trend.”
As AFWN approaches its main showcase, An Evening of Indigo Elu has already set a high standard for what’s to come.
