Africa StarX, a reality show, which is a fusion of sports, lifestyle and entertainment, but focusing on basketball this season, has been unveiled in Lagos.
Expressing his delight at the show slated for the last quarter of 2022, the boss of Africa StarX, Dr. Benjamin Peters said his company has opened the portal for submission of entries for the first edition, where professionals and general public will determine the next big basketball star.
“The project has been designed as a platform to give opportunities to talented sportsmen to showcase their talents and get to the zenith of their careers through management and endorsement deals that we would be providing for the eventual winner,” he explained.
The event had in attendance personalities like Olanrewaju Bamidele Jaiyeola of Honeywell Flour Mill; Vice President, Nigeria Basketball Federation, Babs Ogunade; Henry Adeniyi Omotayo, project lead; Phillip Braide, Ogoh Odaudu and Kolade Adu among others.
While sports journalist, Femi Adefeso has been named the show host; Ogoh Odaudu, Chris Nomingo, Taiye Adeniyi, Shola Shomala, Adewunmi Aderemi and Abdullrahman Mohammed emerged as coaches for the participants.
Speaking on the format, Henry Omotayo said participants with interests in basketball from across the country will be picked through entry submission on the Africa StarX website between August 31, 2022 and September 30, 2022. He stated further: “Physical auditions will follow immediately after the entry submissions in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Enugu and Lagos after which the coaches will select the last 25, both male and female, that will enter the house to participate in the show.”
The 25 participants are expected to bond and engage in different challenging activities for 30 days while slugging it out as a team and later as individuals to emerge winner of the show. The best team will smile to the bank with N10 million, most valuable player will get N2.5 million, management deal/contract for international tryouts, and college scholarship for a participant.
