As Nigeria intensifies efforts to modernise tax administration and improve revenue collection, fintech firm Afri Invoice has secured accreditation from the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) as an official Access Point Provider (APP), positioning the company to support businesses in complying with the country’s mandatory electronic invoicing regime.
The accreditation comes ahead of the July implementation deadline for the next phase of Nigeria’s e-invoicing programme and places Afri Invoice among a select group of technology providers authorised to connect businesses directly to the government’s centralised digital tax infrastructure.
The development follows the company’s recent licensing as an official Systems Integrator by the NRS, giving it a dual-authorisation status within Nigeria’s evolving digital tax ecosystem.
Under the new framework, Afri Invoice will provide businesses with secure access to the NRS Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS), the electronic platform established to facilitate real-time invoice validation, digital signing, and transmission of transaction data to tax authorities. The MBS platform forms a key component of Nigeria’s broader tax reform agenda aimed at reducing tax evasion, increasing transparency, and improving revenue generation. The system enables the real-time capture and monitoring of business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) transactions.
While large taxpayers have already begun transitioning to the platform, the NRS is expanding implementation to medium-sized and smaller enterprises.
Industry stakeholders note that direct integration with government tax systems requires strict technical and regulatory compliance, making Access Point Providers critical intermediaries in the process.
To secure the accreditation, Afri Invoice underwent a comprehensive assessment covering software architecture, security protocols, system resilience, and compliance with international interoperability standards, including the PEPPOL framework.

Speaking on the accreditation, Founder of Afri Invoice, Mark Odenore, described the approval as a major milestone for the company and an opportunity to simplify compliance for businesses of all sizes.
“This accreditation represents one of the most significant moments in Afri Invoice’s journey.
We have always believed that regulatory compliance should not be an expensive burden reserved for large corporations. Our goal is to help businesses seamlessly adapt to the new digital tax environment while improving efficiency and transparency,” he said.
According to the company, its platform is designed to automate the entire invoicing process, enabling businesses to integrate with existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, submit transaction data in real time, manage digital certificates, and maintain detailed audit trails.
Director of Strategy and Operations at Afri Invoice, Fatimata Niang, said the company’s infrastructure was built to accommodate growing transaction volumes while maintaining security and reliability.
“Our systems have been developed to meet global standards for security, interoperability and scalability.
Every invoice processed through the platform is cryptographically secured and fully traceable. As adoption expands across millions of taxpayers, we are prepared to support the increased demand without compromising performance,” she said.
The company added that its platform supports all NRS-mandated tax categories, quantity codes, and payment status requirements, helping businesses remain compliant as Nigeria advances towards a fully digital tax administration system.
