The Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA) has hosted a delegation from the French Development Agency (AFD) on a two-day technical mission to assess progress on the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit (KBRT) project ahead of its planned groundbreaking in June 2026.
The delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary of the Kaduna State Ministry of Works and Public Infrastructure, Alhaji Ashiru Abdu Na Abdu, where discussions focused on the current status of the project and areas requiring additional support.
Speaking during the meeting, the Director General of KADSTRA, Engr. Inuwa Ibrahim, said the visit was aimed at reviewing milestones achieved so far and identifying ways to strengthen the implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit system.
According to him, the mission will also evaluate the contributions of key project partners to ensure the successful delivery of the initiative.
AFD Country Director, Jacky Amprou, said the agency remains committed to supporting the Kaduna BRT project through technical and financial assistance where necessary.
He noted that the mission was designed to assess achievements recorded so far and provide additional backing to keep the project on track.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary expressed confidence in the success of the BRT system, citing the performance of similar transport infrastructure in developed countries.

He added that Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, considers the project a landmark initiative that will improve urban transportation across the state.
He also assured the delegation of the state government’s full support and expressed optimism that the groundbreaking ceremony would hold as scheduled in June 2026.
The Engineering, Procurement and Construction Supervision (EPCS) Design Team Lead, Alok Jain, acknowledged some existing challenges but maintained that preparations remain on course for the commencement of the project.
Also speaking, the Project Management and Operational Design (PMOD) Team Lead, Teodoro S Regino, commended members of the PMOD team for adopting innovative approaches toward advancing the project.
As part of the mission, the delegation conducted technical review sessions involving the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Supervision (EPCS), Project Management and Operational Design (PMOD), and the Project Management Unit (PMU).
The team also visited the proposed BRT corridor site for on-the-ground assessment.
Kaduna State is the second state in Nigeria, and the first in Northern Nigeria, to embark on a Bus Rapid Transit system, a development seen as a major step toward sustainable urban transportation in the region.
