Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali said Saturday’s third-place game between Nigeria and Egypt ended in a goalless draw in regulation time because both teams were careful about making a mistake.
Nwabali was the hero, saving two spot kicks, as Eric Chelle’s team beat the Pharaohs 4-2 on penalties to emerge third at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Chippa United goalie was awarded Man of the Match for his heroics.
Speaking after the game, the 29-year-old described the win as a collective effort.
“It was a very difficult match against a great Egyptian team; Nobody wanted to make a mistake,” he told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
