Senegal’s football federation has condemned the decision to strip the country of its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, describing it as the “most blatant administrative scam in football history.”
Federation president Abdoulaye Fall said Senegal would not accept the ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), confirming that the country has filed an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to defend its “honour.”
The controversy stems from the AFCON final against Morocco, where Senegal players briefly walked off the pitch in protest after a disputed penalty decision, having earlier seen a goal ruled out.
Despite returning to play and winning 1-0 after extra time, CAF later overturned the result, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory.

Senegal’s legal team argues that the decision undermines the authority of match officials and violates established football laws, particularly those governing referees and match conduct.
They insist that overturning the result sets a dangerous precedent for the sport.
“It is not only the integrity of African football but that of global football that is at stake,” one of the lawyers said, warning that such decisions could shift outcomes from the pitch to courtrooms.
The lawyers further cautioned that if the ruling stands, it could erode confidence in competitive football, where titles may increasingly be decided through legal disputes rather than performance on the field. An expedited hearing at CAS could see a decision within months.
Despite the ongoing legal battle, Senegal maintains it remains the rightful champion and plans to present the AFCON trophy to its supporters during an upcoming friendly match, signalling its firm rejection of CAF’s decision.
