Yosola Onanuga, Head of Sustainability at TGI Group, has underscored the importance of adopting circular economy practices in agriculture and food production. Speaking at the 12th West African Clean Energy and Environment Conference (WACEE) in Lagos, Onanuga emphasized TGI’s dedication to sustainable business.
“Transitioning to a circular economy requires substantial investment, but the long-term benefits are immense,” she stated. “At TGI, we’ve integrated circularity into our operations, from food production to agribusiness, maximising resource recovery and adding value at every step.”
Onanuga highlighted TGI’s innovative approach to rice milling, where agricultural by-products are converted into energy. “Our rice production facility in Argungu, Kebbi State, exemplifies how waste can be transformed into a resource. By utilising by-products from rice processing, we reduce waste and generate power for our operations, showcasing the tangible benefits of a circular economy.”
TGI Group aligns its sustainability efforts with Nigeria’s environmental goals and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The company’s commitment to sustainable business practices is evident in its diverse sectors, including agribusiness, oil and gas, and manufacturing.
The WACEE conference brought together key stakeholders to address environmental challenges and explore innovative solutions in the renewable energy sector.
Discussions focused on government policies that can further incentivize the private sector to adopt circular models.
TGI Group remains committed to advancing the circular economy and leading by example, ensuring that its business operations contribute to both environmental stewardship and economic development in Nigeria and West Africa.
