Residents of Osun state expressed grief Sunday morning after heavy rainfall in the night of Saturday, caused widespread damage across parts of the state.
According to reports, the downpour destroyed roofs of homes and businesses, with some government properties also affected. Streetlights, billboards and other public and private assets were reportedly damaged.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, commiserated with affected residents.
The governor described the incident as “sad” and “unfortunate,” saying his administration would take steps—through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA)—to address the losses suffered by victims in Osogbo and other affected communities.

He also directed the Ministry of Works to quickly move into action, including clearing motorways, to help prevent further accidents.
The APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, similarly sympathised with victims in a statement personally signed and made available to journalists in Osogbo.
He said while natural disasters are sometimes inevitable, governments must remain responsible and responsive in addressing their effects on people’s lives and property.
Oyebamiji urged greater attention to critical sectors such as the environment, climate and ecological matters, adding that an APC administration, if elected, would prioritise public safety over politics and self-advertisement.
