Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has tasked the newly appointed Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Mr Victoria Samson—popularly known as “Mama BOVAS”—to apply her private sector experience to support the growth and development of the institution.
Speaking at the formal investiture of the new Chancellor and the commissioning of a sport complex, laboratory science and lecture theatre, the governor said he considered her “worthy” to succeed Mrs Modupe Alakija, whose two-term tenure has ended.
Adeleke described the ceremony as more than just the installation of a new Chancellor, saying it represents continuity, visionary leadership, and the commitment of the government to strengthen UNIOSUN as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing universities.
He also reiterated that education is the most enduring investment a government can make for the future of its people.
He urged Samson to bring her experience to bear in helping the university deliver stronger outcomes for students and staff.
In her address, Samson said her focus during her tenure would be to help the university raise, deploy, and build infrastructure that supports both students and faculty. She promised to ensure better care for faculty—academic and administrative—so they can deliver effectively for students, strengthen the bridge between “town and gown” through deeper collaboration between the university and industry.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, thanked the outgoing and previous chancellors—Oba Okunade Sijuwade and Mr Modupe Alakija—for their contributions to UNIOSUN’s growth, saying they aligned with the vision of the founding fathers.
He also commended Samson’s leadership traits and expressed confidence that she would help drive that vision forward.
