Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams has again restated the need for the restructuring of Nigeria, noting that the current system of government is very expensive and breeds corruption across all sectors.

Adams, the Chief Promoter of Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF), stated that the present structure of Nigeria cannot help the country to fulfil it dreams as a nation. He said this at a press conference to intimate the general public on the commencement of the annual Eledumare Festival being sponsored by OFF. The festival, which commenced on March 19, is a 21-day event to celebrate God with different activities in different locations between Lagos and Ogun States.

At the press conference, Adams who was represented by Chief Yinka Oguntimehin, said: “So, as we begin all the activities heralding the celebration of this year’s  Eledumare Festival, I humbly make a case for unity in Yoruba land.

“We have lost a lot to disunity. We need to retrace our steps and seek the best for our race by being united. As we celebrate the Eledumare festival, I also make the case for a complete overhauling of the structure of this country. I make the case for a parliamentary system of government, where the regions will be allowed to function and prosper accordingly.

“Today in Nigeria, the country is faced with various challenges including economic, political and structural. The security challenges are also very alarming.

“Just last week, about 16 soldiers of Nigerian Army were murdered in Delta State. Bandits and kidnappers are daily on the prowl. The situation is becoming very unbearable. The present structure cannot help us in fulfilling the dreams of the country.”
