Gambia’s new president, Adama Barrow, will be returning to Bangul, the country’s capital city on Tuesday, January 24.
President Barrow’s return comes after the past president Yahya Jammeh was ousted from the country to Equatorial Guinea on an exile.
Barrow’s spokesperson, Halifa Sallah, said the president was planning to return to The Gambia after the West African troops have secured the country and his predecessor already on exile.
Barrow assumed office on January 19 after an election where he was declared winner against Jammeh on December 1.
However, after conceding defeat, exiled Jammeh made a U-turn refusing to let go power as president.
This led to the decision of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to send in military contingency led by Nigeria defence troops into Gambia.
The incident also resulted to the inauguration of Barrow at The Gambia’s Embassy in Dakar, Senegal.
