Denzel Washington now a minister

Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington is now a minister following a baptism on Saturday, December 21.

The 69-year-old Hollywood legend was baptized at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ, located in the Harlem neighbourhood of New York.

The Gladiator II star was also given a minister license, which will allow him to be ordained in the future.

The ceremony was live-streamed on Facebook and the actor was casually dressed in a grey T-shirt and black sweatpants.

Washington opened up on embracing his new faith just days ahead of his 70th birthday and said that his journey took some time but finally brought him to where he was.

“In one week I turn 70. It took a while but I’m here. If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit,” he said.

The actor’s wife Pauletta Washington was also in attendance and shared her husband’s spiritual journey, expressing pride in witnessing him take his step of faith.

“Forty-six years later, here I’m still standing next to him as only God will have it. So I’m very proud of you.

“You are the head of our house and you have set a great example for our children, who are now adult children who know the difference because we have shown them the difference,” she stated.
