Abia government has said that it is determined to spend between N80 billion and N100 billion, to put things in order for Aba to meet world standards in infrastructural development.
This is, as it called on all stakeholders in the society, to cooperate with it by carrying out their civic duties for the programme to succeed.
Gov Alex Otti, stated this while commissioning two water boreholes, built by traders at zone 1 and 11 in the Eziukwu Road market.
Represented by the Mayor of Aba South Council Area, Chief Uchenna Nwogu, the governor, reminded the traders of government’s prompt intervention when a fire outbreak ravaged shops, noting that the fire was not allowed to spread due to an earlier rehabilitation of a fire fighting vehicle at the Aba fire station, which helped in small measure to contain and quench the inferno that would have destroyed the entire market.
“The water boreholes, you have built are in line with the Aba Enyimba spirit of loving one another.
“Governnent has a special interest in Aba. Governnent said it will engage N80 billion to N100 billion in rebuilding the Aba infrastructures to meet modern world standards. Our responsibility is to support the government, so on our part, we are rebuilding the Aba Town Hall. We want you to support us in order to succeed at all levels of governance.”
The president of Abia traders association (ASMATA), Chief Alphonsus Udeigbo, lauded the two zones that sunk boreholes to provide water in the market, stating that what they did was part of the recommendations made by a panel that looked into the cause of the February 5th, fire incident that ravaged shops in the market.
He urged other zones in markets in the state to emulate the gesture to ensure available water for the traders and their customers at all times.
