The acting Rector of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Mrs Chidinma Ndukwe, has advocated for the promotion of cultural values in the society.
The she said would foster a sense of unity and pride among students while promoting and preserving Nigeria’s cultural richness in diversity.
Mrs. Ndukwe stated this in her speech, “Promoting Cultural Values: Curbing Societal Ills”, during the institution’s annual cultural festival.
While emphasising the importance of cultural awareness in shaping a harmonious society and combating social issues, the Rector called for the harnessing of cultural values in addressing and mitigating societal challenges.
Mrs. Ndukwe noted that by promoting unity and understanding, the fiesta served as a reminder that embracing one’s culture was key to building a harmonious and vibrant society.
The Rector disclosed that the institution’s cultural fiesta, was an annual event that brings together Abia Poly students, students from other schools, and guests who showcase the cultural richness of the country.
Highlights of the event were cultural dance competition, cuisine competition, riddles and jokes interpretation competition among others.
The first position in the overall competition went to Akwa Ibom State students, second position was by the Federation of Ngwa students, while the Bende Federated Students won the third position.
Some of the students who spoke with our Correspondent, thanked the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti for appointing Mrs. Ndukwe the acting Rector, saying that since she came on board as Rector, the institution has returned to Its former glory.
They equally lauded the Governor for paying the salaries of their lecturers as and when due which they have impacted positively on the institution.
The occasion was graced by dignitaries, including government officials, business gurus, heads of sister schools, and representatives from various unions.
