The Abia State Police Command said it has dismissed Corporal Obagi Njok for his involvement in the shooting and killing of a businessman, Emmanuel Okocha, in Aba.
The command said investigation into the criminal aspect of Njok’s conduct has been concluded and that he has been handed over for prosecution.
Corporal Njok shot and killed Okocha about two months ago at a police checkpoint on Aba-Owerri Road, without provocation.
A release by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka, said disciplinary actions have been concluded by the command and that relevant stakeholders, including the family of the deceased, were carried along at every step of the process.
Chinaka said Corporal Njok was found guilty of discreditable conduct of misuse of firearms and has, therefore, been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.
Meanwhile, the command said since investigation into the criminal aspect of Njok’s conduct has also been concluded, the matter has been handed over to the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abia State, for prosecution. The command, unequivocally condemning any act of misconduct, unprofessionalism, and indiscipline among her officers, said it remains steadfast in upholding professionalism and the rule of law.
