The High Court of Abia State has overturned the Abia State Government’s withdrawal of the staff of office of HRM Eze Edward Ebere Eule.
In the judgment delivered by Justice L.T.C. Eruba, the court ruled that the government acted outside its powers by suspending the monarch and withdrawing his staff of office before the expiration of the three-month period stated in its own White Paper.
The judge described the action as “an abysmal charade” and held that no government could violate its own administrative procedures.
The court also faulted the board of inquiry for ruling on matters already pending before the high court, calling it “a contemptuous interference” with the court’s jurisdiction.
Justice Eruba declared the board’s proceedings, findings, recommendations and the government’s White Paper null, void and of no effect, effectively restoring Eze Eule’s traditional authority.
